With the Management Plan approved, work is going forward at Allanach-Wolf Preserve in Windham to make it one of our premier preserves.
One of the projects is renovation of the small meadow near the parking area. Invasive non-natives (lots of forsythia and lilac – available to anyone interested) will be removed, and a “butterfly garden” will be installed in the same area. It will feature plants that are hosts for larva as well as attractive nectar sources.
We are looking for volunteers to help plant, water, and weed during the first growing season. Since most of the plants will be natives, little maintenance other than dead-heading and light weeding will be necessary in future years.
If you are interested in helping out, please contact Joan Hill at 860 228-2849 or email her:
